Spring Oats (Avena sativa)
A non-native annual cover crop, also called a nurse crop, that can be planted with your native seed to help limit erosion and provide competition for weeds. It also performs well as a seed carrier. Oats are best used with spring plantings, as they do not typically over-winter well... for fall installations we recommend using ReGreen as a cover crop (mixed with Oats if using as a seed carrier). This cover crop is an annual, it will germinate and grow in a single season and will not grow the following year. The recommended seeding rate is 40 lbs/acre.
Cover crops are the only non-native species we recommend using in native planting projects.
